Durham County Girls’ Rugby

Girls’ Rugby is one of the fastest areas of development within Rugby Union. Under 16 and Under 18 girls teams are featuring in the plans of a growing number of clubs within the County – some have established sides, others are working hard to recruit and train new players; schools are increasingly becoming involved.

The North East has strong Regional Under 16 and Under 18 squads and Durham works closely with the North East Region and Northumberland to organise leagues, cup competitions and fixtures.

Age Structure

  • Girls are part of the Rugby Continuum to the age of 12 and play club Mini rugby on an equal footing with boys

  • Girls aged 12 -15 on 1 September play in Under 16 girls only sides

  • Girls aged 16 - 17 on 1 September play Under 18 girls rugby

    U16 Durham County Girls’ Rugby

2003-2004 is the third season that there has been a County team. The best U16s from clubs and schools are invited to trials at the County girls’ home ground at Houghall College, Durham.
